Costa Rica Minister of Tourism dealing with eight new airlines

Costa Rica dealing with eight new airlines

Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica perceives potential markets in California and South America

Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, said that his ministry is currently negotiating with eight airlines to fly to the country.

The chief did not release the names of these companies, but said five of them are from South America, one U.S. and two in Europe. Negotiations with South American companies and the U.S. began three months ago, and with European eight months ago. A company of the Old Continent would be a charter flight to the airport Daniel Oduber in Liberia, Guanacaste.

The aim of the Minister is to close deals with most of these airlines, while recognizing that it is not easy. Particularly because, he said, the decision of a company to fly to a new destination depends on factors such as profitability, and this in turn is subject to the existence of a constant traffic of passengers between the two destinations.

“There are good management efforts to attract new airlines to the country and for that, we work hand in hand with private enterprise to promote the country,” said Benavides.

Interest. The holder of Tourism said that these new flights not only attract business travelers, but also for pleasure.

A case in point is the tourists from California, which is composed largely of surfers who visit the Pacific coast of our country. Another potential source market of tourists to the country is called the Southern Cone, composed of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and southern Brazil, said the chief.

What can Costa Rica give to those potential tourists?

Benavides was emphatic in highlighting not only the natural beauty and the issue of sustainability but also the possibility of traveling to different destinations in a short time. Other issues highlighted were the service culture of Costa Rica and private infrastructure (hotels and restaurants). He acknowledged, however, that the issue of road infrastructure is “an opportunity for improvement.”

“Costa Rica is a great destination and we have more strengths than weaknesses,” the minister of tourism. One of the main attractions that promotes the country abroad are the volcanoes and their surroundings, adventure tours such as Canopy Tours, water rafting tours, horseback riding among others.
